FAQ

Q) Great! How do I sign up?

A) Please go to our Meet Up page and let us know you’re coming. Try to show up on time so it gives our club members time to show you around and get your gear situated. Please also bring a signed waiver.

Q) How much does it cost?

A) First 3 practices are free! People usually know by 3 practices if this is something they want to stick with. After that, it is $11 per practice.

Q) I have no swimming or water background.

A) And that’s perfectly fine! Some of our elite players started off with absolutely no swimming background. As long as you’re willing to learn and work with us, we will try our best to help you pick up this niche sport!

Q) I don’t have any gear – am I expected to bring it to practice?

A) We have plenty of club gear for you to choose and experiment with until you’re ready to commit to buying your own set of gear. Don’t be afraid to ask club members to try on their gear before you start splurging. As an added plus, one of our members is the owner of Bentfish and is more than happy to help you choose gear!

Q) Is there an age limit for this sport?

A) Generally no. In countries like Australia and New Zealand, children start playing as young as 12 years old. There are currently clubs around the USA that caters to a Juniors program, but currently Chicago UWH Club does not have one (though that may change soon!) We welcome all ages and are proud to say we have one of the oldest players in the world still rocking underwater hockey at the golden age of 83 years old!

Q) I’m only in Chicago for a short time. Can I drop in?

A) Yes! We love visitors. Just make sure you let us know on Meet Up or Facebook that you’re coming.

Q) I’m only living in Chicago for X number of years. Is there a point in joining UWH?

A) You betcha! We have one of the friendliest club in the country and will help you get your feet wet (literally and figuratively). Once you do move to another part of the country (or world), there are plenty of other UWH clubs in many other locations. Check out this site for other clubs!
